Eden Prairie man charged with felony drug possession

For a majority of people in the state of Minnesota the phrase "felony fifth-degree drug possession" sounds quite terrifying especially because it can carry with it serious penalties such as hefty fines and time in prison.

The truth of the matter is that charges all depend on the supposed crime committed and in the case of drug crimes, the amount of drugs matters too. It's important to remember though that even though a fifth-degree felony charge may not be the worst penalty, it's still a felony and can have significant consequences for you in the future.

Without the assistance from a drug crimes attorney, an Eden Prairie man could face serious consequences after Minneapolis police arrested him after allegedly "watching him violate several traffic laws" and finding what appeared to be heroin in his vehicle.

According to the police report, when officers approached the vehicle they claim to have "smelled an odor of burnt marijuana" coming from inside his car. Police allegedly then searched the vehicle where they claim to have discovered "folded pieces of aluminum foil which contained suspected heroin." The .06 grams of suspected substance allegedly tested positive for heroin. A single anti-seizure pill was also discovered in a pocket of a jacket in the backseat, officers say. Police say it was a medication the man did not hold a prescription for.

He has since been released from police custody on a $3,000 bond and is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on February 5 in the Hennepin County District Court for the two counts of felony fifth-degree drug possession. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of five years and a $10,000 fine.
